Flydon Stud

News and Diary 2012

December 2012.... Lottie was lucky to spend much of December in Australia, having the honour to judge the Vic All Welsh show and then to travel to Tasmania to judge the Tas All Welsh. The Supreme Champion of the Vic AllWelsh was the very beautiful Welsh Mountain pony mare Ripple Brook Tapestry, pictured below. Tapestry was such a feminine and quality pony, difficult to fault, I knew as soon as she walked into the ring that she was my Champion.

October/November 2012.... We attended our usual few foal shows purely for education and although we are not concerned with placings at these shows we were pleased that Flydon Derec Dda was Reserve Champion at West Mercia foal show under Carol Jones of the Weston Stud.

Flydon Pluen was sold and has a lovely home on Anglesey, good luck to her new owners.

September 2012.... Flydon Alaw Hoff was sold at Fayre Oaks sale and is off to Holland. Have fun with her Eric...she is full of spirit and will make a wonderful show mare!

August 2012.... We have had a lovely August with a complete change of show team!

Flydon Alaw Aur was 2nd at the National Championship show and 2nd at Denbigh and Flint, junior mares and Flydon Ysbryd Byw, yearling filly, was 3rd at Denbigh and Flint and 1st at Bleanavon show, all Silver medal shows!

Nine Flydon stallions have sired prizewinners at major shows this year, namely; Flydon Henri ap Pip, Flydon Caradog, Flydon Lwcus, Flydon Dant-y-llew, Flydon Hapus ap Henri, Flydon Wyn, Flydon Hiwmor, Flydon Henadur and Flydon Hwyl!! Five of these stallions sired top 5 placed ponies at the RWAS including res female Champion, Reserve youngstock Champion and Champion foal!!

As well as having numerous visitors to see the ponies, we also enjoyed entertaining Carmarthen Association for a stud visit in early August. It was such a treat to show a large group of enthusiasts the ponies and even though the weather was catchy, we managed to stay dry and had a lovely "brunch" in the stables.

July 2012....

Royal Welsh 2012! What a fantastic show for Flydon!!

Flydon Llwy Pwdin was 1st two year old fillies, Reserve Youngstock Champion and Reserve Female Champion!!

Flydon Hudol was 2nd in the junior mare class and reserve for the trophy

Flydon Llwy Arian was 5th in the Senior mare class

Flydon Dant-y-llew , pictured below, was 5th in the senior stallion class (many thanks to Will Perrins for showing him as there was a clash of classes)

Progeny of 5 Flydon stallions; Flydon Henri ap Pip, Flydon Caradog, Flydon Lwcus, Flydon Dant-y-llew and Flydon Hapus ap Henri were awarded top five placements, including Penech What's Wanted, 5th three year old colt class and Cromagtir Dagan MacHapus, Champion foal! Congratulations!

Interesting start to July! We totally missed Northleach due to being stranded by floods! But we did make the Midland Silver Medal show the next day. Flydon Diferyn was 4th in the broodmare class, Flydon Llwy Pwdin was 2nd and highest 2yr old in the filly class, Flydon Dant-y-llew won the stallion class but our little star was Flydon Derec Dda who won a large foal class and was awarded Supreme Champion foal!!

Flydon Seren Olaf has been sold to Liz and Paul Hampson who intend to carry on showing her before putting her in foal. We wish them much success with this lovely pony

June 2012....

Congratulations to Kevin and Lesley Moy for winning the foal class at the Royal Highland with their colt foal by Flydon Hapus ap Henri....a great mover!

We had an enjoyable stud visit with members of Avon and Borders and Glamorgan Associations, and again the sun shone! Thank you to all our friends and helpers and thank you to all our visitors, it's so nice to celebrate in this way.

Clwyd silver medal show....Flydon Dant-y-llew was 2nd in the stallion class, nicely following up his wins at Nefyn and Stafford County Show

Three Counties Show...Flydon Diferyn was 3rd in the novice mare class, Flydon Hudol was 2nd in the open mare class and Second reserve in the Championship and Flydon Seren Olaf pinged her way around the ring to stand 4th in a large 2 and 3 year old filly class

We welcomed members of Brecon and Borders Association on the 10th June. Luckily the rain held off and we had a lovely few hours wandering around the ponies followed by lunch on the lawn!

Another successful weekend showing. Both Flydon Hudol and Flydon Tylluan were 3rd at the Royal Bath and West, Tylluan being highest placed 2 yr old. Then at West Mercia Flydon Diferyn braved her first ever show since a foal and was second to the lovely Glebedale Savannah. Flydon Seren Olaf won the 2 and 3 yr old filly class and was reserve youngstock Champion.

May 2012....

Flydon Llwy Arian was Champion, Bronze medal winner and Reserve Supreme Welsh at NPS Area 29, her first outing for three years!

Flydon Hudol was Section A Champion and Bronze medal winner under Jocelyn Price at Devon County Show. A good start to her 2nd show season as a brood mare.

Flydon Sipsi Aur has been sold with filly foal at foot to Catryn Bigley of the Llanarth stud. We wish Catryn lots of fun and filly foals in the future.

April 2012....

Although we don't start showing until May, the Penech stud has been braving the weather with a son and daughter of Flydon Hapus ap Henri. Pictured below are Penech What's Wanted and Penech Bellissa, both three year olds who won their respective classes at Tudor Rose on the 15th April. What's Wanted then went on to stand Reserve Champion. Bellissa was out again on the 29th April at the East Midlands WPCS show where she again won her class and went on to be Youngstock Champion and Reserve overall. Well done team Brian and Jennifer and well done Flydon Hapus ap Henri!

Meanwhile on the other side of the world in Australia, Flydon Llwy Bren's daughter from his first crop of foals was out showing on the 22nd April. Elargee Rhianwen won the medal for the Grand Champion Welsh foal at the North East Border Welsh Foal Show.  Well done Team Elargee and Well done Flydon Llwy Bren, an exciting start for a young stallion!

We have started covering mares both for ourselves and visiting mares, although we are surprised that they are even showing in season with the weather as cold as it is! 2 degrees today with driving icy rain from the North East! Ashley Porter from the Vanoca Park stud is staying to help with the show season again but I think he is regretting coming over from warm Australia so early!

March 2012....... We are really pleased that Flydon Wyn has done well in the 2011 sire ratings with only 3 offspring being shown, one junior mare, Flydon Alaw Aur and two 2yr old fillies, Flydon Sidan Aur and Flydon Llwy De . .... BUT even more pleasing is that Nerwyn Cadno, Wyn's sire, is up there in 3rd place, helped there by our very own Flydon Wyn and Flydon Arian Byw. It's a great line!
