Flydon Stud

News and Diary 2013

October/November 2013... we attended a couple of foal/youngstock shows, mostly for education. Flydon Bryan was 3rd at the National foal show. Flydon Ysbryd Byw was 1st and Reserve Champion at West Mercia Show.

October 2013....What a year! There have been a lot of changes here at Flydon with very successful sales being achieved to lovely homes. It seems strange to have so few ponies and only 6 foals due next year, but it is all for a happy reason. A future move for us all and a 2014 wedding!

September 2013...... Good luck to Eric Koele with his Fayre Oaks purchase Flydon Calon Arian.

August 2013....Pembroke County Show is one of our favourites, Flydon Pipsqueak was Reserve Supreme Champion here in 1998. This is a show that attracts many successful and long standing breeders and is always well supported by Crumpwell, Heniarth, Cwm-Meduwy, Haverford, Dukeshill, Ceulan, Brynodyn, Three B's, Friarly, Menai, Castlemead and many other breeders of note. In the entries were at least 4 former Royal Welsh winners and many medal winners so the competition was high!

Our lovely three year old, Flydon Llwy Pwdin, on her only outing this season, won her class and went on to be Youngstock Champion. Reserve Youngstock Champion was Cromagtir Dagan Mac-Hapus by Flydon Hapus ap Henri. Both of these youngsters had success at the Royal Welsh 2012, Llwy Pwdin was 1st, Reserve Female Champion and Reserve Youngstock Champion, while Mac-Hapus was 1st and Champion foal!

The National Show was a lovely day, unfortunately as Lottie is on the committee we couldn't show but Lesley and Kevin Moy's yearling colt Cromagtir Dagan MacHapus by Flydon Hapus ap Henri was 1st and Reserve youngstock Champion, flying the flag for Flydon breeding.

4 days into the month and already Flydon Calon Fach (Flydon Dant-y-llew x Flydon Calon Arian) has been 1st and Youngstock Champion at the West Yorks WPCA Medal show; Penech Ebrill (out of Flydon Eos) was 2nd in the barren mare class at the same show; Tamevalley Siena (by Flydon Hwyl) was 1st and Reserve Youngstock Champion at Three Shires Medal Show; and Oldacres Lili (out of Flydon Lafant) was 1st and Reserve Mini Supreme Champion Pretty Polly M&M Leadrein at the Royal International Horseshow

July 2013 ....... We had a good Royal Welsh again. Flydon Llwy De was 7th in the junior mare class with her foal Flydon Llwynog coming a very credible 9th in a huge colt class! It has definitely been a colt year. Then on Weds Flydon Ysbryd Byw was 2nd in the 2yr old filly class, very well shown by our resident Australian, Ashley Porter. So we were very pleased with the 2013 RWAS!

The week before the Royal Welsh was Ashby Show where once again Flydon bred ponies did well, Flydon Calon Fach (by Flydon Dant-y-llew) owned by the Perrins family won the 2/3yr old filly class while Tamevalley Siena by Flydon Hwyl was 1st in the yearling filly class.

Flydon Calon Fach and Tamevalley Siena

On the one hand life is good! We had a great day at the Midland Ass Silver Medal show, Flydon Llwy De was 3rd in the broodmare class. Her foal Flydon Llwynog won the foal class and went on to be Supreme Champion foal. This is the second year running that a Flydon foal has won this, both foals being by our junior stallion Flydon Hwyl!....perhaps we should enter our foals more often!

Meanwhile at Market Bosworth Show, Dukeshill Pipsqueak, by Flydon Henri ap Pip was Champion section A and Supreme Champion M&M, congratulations to Brian and Jennifer of the Penech stud.

on the other hand..... we lost our very promising yearling colt, Flydon Lloyd (Flydon Hapus ap Henri x Flydon Llwy De) who severed a tendon in his hind leg. Which just goes to show no matter how careful and tidy you are, accidents happen.

June 2013.....Another good week for Flydon breeding....

Blaenavon silver medal show....Cromagtir Dagan McHapus by Flydon Hapus ap Henri was 2nd in the yearling colt class and Flydon Ysbryd Byw by Flydon Hwyl was 3rd in the 2/3 yr old fillies........

Cheshire County...Flydon Calon Fach by Flydon Dant-y-llew was 2nd in the two year old filly class and Dukeshill Pipsqueak by Flydon Henri ap Pip was 3rd in the barren mare class.........

Royal Highland show.....Flydon Llwy De by Flydon Wyn was 2nd in the broodmare class which was pleasing for a 4yr old.  Dukeshill Pipsqueak by Flydon Henri ap Pip looked beautiful and won the barren mare class. Flydon Pefren was 5th in the broodmare class and Flydon Miss Moneypenny was 6th in the 2/3yr old class.... and the Royal Highland was an amazing show to visit, well worth the 10 hour journey!............

Derby County Show....Tamevalley Siena by Flydon Hwyl was first in the yearling filly class and won the youngstock Perlwell salver....

Lincolnshire County....Oldacres Lili out of Flydon Lafant has qualified for HOYS!!!

Well done everyone :-)

Flydon Llwy De had her first outing as a broodmare at the Royal Three Counties Show. She was 2nd in the novice broodmare class to the eventual Champion, a good start to her season.

Having been on holiday in Cornwall for a week it seems we don't need to show! Its been a good time for ponies of Flydon breeding in the show ring. In the top two at medal shows this week...yearling colt, Floreat Cosmos out of Flydon Cadw Cyfrenig; broodmare Tamevalley Polka by Flydon Henri ap Pip; barren mare Dukeshill Pipsqueak (photo below) by Flydon Henri ap Pip; two year old filly, Flydon Calon Fach by Flydon Dant-y-llew and Oldacres Lili out of Flydon Lafant, Supreme Champion under saddle. Congratulations everyone

May 2013.... Flydon Tylluan has been sold to a 5* ridden home and we couldn't be more delighted. Good luck to her new owners

If you have read the article on page 87 of the 2013 journal, you will already know that Flydon stallions are great producers. If you still need convincing, this news arrived today from Australia.

"Hi Jill and Lottie, Just to let you know that we had great success at the Yarra Valley Welsh foal show with three foals by Flydon Llwy Bren. Elargee Firenze was reserve Champion Welsh foal in Ring 1; meanwhile in Ring 2, Elargee Three Wishes won her filly foal class , while Elargee Truman was Champion Welsh Mountain foal and Supreme Welsh foal. He then went on to be Grand Champion Welsh foal of the show, winning a WP&CS medal.

Llwy Bren's daughter Elargee Rhianwen from his first crop of foals achieved a medal last year, so his first two crops of 4 foals have produced medal winners!"

Well done team Elargee, we are delighted for you and for Flydon Llwy Bren!
